New or gently used coats and blankets being accepted at Maryland Science Center

December 2–24 for discounted admission to Mummies of the World

Baltimore, MD (November 12, 2013) – In honor of the holiday season, the Maryland Science Center invites the public to “Wrap a Family in Warmth” by participating in the Salvation Army’s coats and blankets collection drive. From December 2 through December 24, 2013 only, bring a new or gently used coat, sweater or blanket to the Science Center and receive a $3 discount on one adult admission ticket to Mummies of the World, the largest exhibition of real human and animal mummies and related artifacts ever assembled.

Designated donation boxes will be on display at the Maryland Science Center Admissions desk – admission discounts are limited to (2) adult guests per party. All coats collected will be turned over to the Salvation Army of Central Maryland and distributed to area families in need.

“American Exhibitions Inc. dedicates time and resources to philanthropic endeavors in every market in which its exhibitions tour,” says Marc Corwin, president and CEO of American Exhibitions, Inc., producer of Mummies of the World. “This coat and blanket drive for The Salvation Army is one more way our organizations have combined resources to provide support to those in our community who need it most.”

With a collection of 150 specimens and objects, Mummies of the World is the largest exhibition of real human and animal mummies and related artifacts ever assembled. Through engaging interactives and multi-media exhibits, the exhibition provides a window into the lives of ancient people, offering unprecedented insights into past cultures and civilizations. It also demonstrates that mummification –through both natural processes and intentional practices – has taken place in varied forms all over the globe, from the hot desert sands of South America to remote European bogs.

Mummies of the World will be on display at the Maryland Science Center until January 20, 2014. For more information, please visit or
